Match Preview | West Ham United vs Luton Town

Luton Town are on the road for the final time this season as we return to the capital to face West Ham United at London Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Rob Edwards’ side are three points behind 17th place Nottingham Forest after last weekend’s results with two fixtures remaining.

David Moyes’ Hammers are out of form as the season draws to a close, claiming just one win in their last nine Premier League games.

The opposition

David Moyes kissing the UEFA Europa Conference league trophy in 2023.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that Moyes will leave West Ham by mutual consent at the end of the season after four and a half years in charge.

Moyes has achieved two top-seven finishes in the Premier League, runs to the Europa League semi and quarter-finals, and delivered the Europa Conference League title last season, the first major trophy won by West Ham since 1980.

Form has dipped for the Hammers in recent weeks after losing three of their last four games and winning just one Premier League home game in 2024.

West Ham have conceded 70 Premier League goals this season, the joint-most they have conceded in a single campaign along with 2010/11 when they finished bottom.

Jarrod Bowen has been the prolific goalscorer for the hosts, he has 16 Premier League goals this season – he has also scored more headed goals than any player in the division with five.

This is our first trip to the London Stadium, and our first visit to West Ham in the top-flight since August 1991.

Words from Rob

Rob Edwards smiling during his pre-match press conference.

“We’ll expect the best version of West Ham, David Moyes has done a great job, they have been consistent during his time there and got a trophy so should get a great response from their supporters. I have a lot of respect for him.

“Everyone at West Ham deserves the credit for their success over the last few years. They only lost to an unstoppable team in the Europa League [Bayer Leverkusen] this time, so they have a great squad.

“I don’t think it’s a miracle, we’ve been in worse situations as a club. We know what we have to do, and it starts tomorrow.

“We’ll concentrate on ourselves, and we’ll need help from others. It’s difficult to win games in the Premier League and it’s tough, but we need to do our job.

“It means a lot, the support after the play-offs will be something I cherish forever. We’ve grown into the league and now we’ve shown quality and can compete. I think we’ve lost in style at times, the performances have been good but we’re at a point where we need points.

“All we can do is concentrate on West Ham because it’s still there for us.”

Last time out

Elijah Adebayo celebrating his goal against Everton with Sambi Lokonga.

We had to settle for a point last Friday night after being held to a draw by Everton under the lights at Kenilworth Road.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s penalty opened the scoring before Elijah Adebayo fired us level before the break; the Hatters pushed to find a winner in stoppage time to no avail.

Team news

Chiedozie Ogbene smiling in training.

Chiedozie Ogbene could feature this weekend after training for the last two days.

Recent returnee Elijah Adebayo also had a full week of training in the build-up to the penultimate game of the season.

No other injured players are set to return for this fixture.

Last time we met

Mads Andersen celebrating his first Premier League goal.

The first Premier League fixture ever played at Kenilworth Road went the way of visitors West Ham.

Mads Andersen scored his first Hatters goal after Bowen and Kurt Zouma gave the Hammers a two-goal cushion.

Officials

Michael Oliver refereeing our game against Aston Villa in March.

The referee for our fixture against West Ham will be Michael Oliver.

133 yellow cards and six red cards have been handed out by Oliver across his 33 games this season.

We last had a game officiated by Oliver when we lost at Kenilworth Road against Aston Villa in March.
